Of course some accidents are just that, but a great many more are caused by some avoidable action. Research from Helsinki reveals the impact of tiredness on accidents – combined with alcohol it makes for grim reading.
But with the increase in home drinking it’s easy to see how anyone can be unclear about how much they drink. Relatively few people actually keep a check on what they consume – just 13% keep a tally and even then, many will underestimate how much they have poured.
There’s nothing on the market that can clear alcohol from the body. What’s needed is time. It takes an average of 1 hour to process 1 unit of alcohol. So if you had four pints of lager (at 2.5 units per pint on average), that would take 10 hours to work its way through your system. Add a couple of shots and the time increases. A sobering thought for the morning after.
